People engage in philanthropic endeavors because it's the right thing to do, and sometimes when we're lucky, the causes we care deeply about have an economic incentive.  But what about when philanthropy doesn't work economically?  Should we abandon the endeavor, or should we go forward anyway?

Obviously this is a difficult question only you can answer.  The keys of course are if you have the drive to move forward, and if you have the ability, do you have ability to drive it.

I was thinking back to TED2009 when Bill Gates released mosquitoes on the crowd which was pretty funny, but also made a brilliant point for an issue he truly cares about.

In case you missed it, here's Bill Gates at TED2009.
