Help me make 2009 a year of Less // 12.31.2008
2009 will be a year of less for me. Less consumption. Less waste. Less use. Less. This will be driven by two factors: Consciousness and Reality.
First, reality. We will all likely make less next year than this year, and costs will mostly stay the same (except for gas). There will be less money to spend, and conservation will... More »
90 days to a Greener Focus at the Office // 12.23.2008
My Christmas came a few days early with a Wall Street Journal article that features my new book, Saving The World At Work.

In this article, I give easy to follow tips for anyone that wants to see their company save some money (jobs) and stay on course with its commitment to the planet. NOTE: I'm linking to the Yahoo! buzz page,... More »
Just say NO to layoffs // 12.18.2008
Innovation is all about creative solutions to pressing problems.
During this economic environment, we need to innovate (cut costs without killing quality) to survive. Layoffs are an easy (non-innovative) way to do that.

In my view, socially responsible companies ... More »

Member John Livesay sent me an article, just posted yesterday:
“Being green and generating a profit are not mutually exclusive, competing values for businesses. They have to exist in harmony. It must be a win-win,” said Tom Cole, vice chairman of Macy’s Inc., discussing the retailer’s sustainability action plan at the Initiatives in Art & Culture... More »
It starts with certification! // 12.08.2008
In LA, your business will soon be able to apply for "Green Business Certification."
Read today's story: City Of Los Angeles To Certify Green Businesses
Why is this important? Once a system is setup to recognize business practices as green, then a credible instrument exists to differentiate one company from another in a competitive situation.
If two companies are competing for business, let the certified green o... More »
Don't give up on giving (because of your hard living) // 12.03.2008
Mr. Stanley Marcus once told me, "Everybody is generous during good times, but only generous people give during hard times."
True words, indeed.
Today I gave a talk at an Easter Seals event in Palm Beach Florida. The fundraiser was aimed at local business leaders, and my task was to connect giving with good business. The message I delivered was: Don't give up on... More »
